POS DEPLOYMENT
Deploy Viking POS where your operation needs it
Run ViKING POS in the cloud, or combine cloud services with POS at the edge. We help you decide where each part belongs and agree who takes responsibility for running it.
YOUR DEPLOYMENT OPTIONS
Cloud. Edge. The right combination for your stores
Choose where POS runs and how cloud and
local execution work together across your retail operaton.
Cloud-based POS
Run ViKING POS in a centrally hosted cloud environment, with checkout devices in your stores. This reduces the POS infrastructure needed in each store.
POS at the edge
Place POS execution and the data needed for offline checkout in the store. Store Management can also run at the edge with offline support.
Hybrid deployment
Combine containerized ViKING POS at the edge with the services in the cloud. This can support offline checkout alongside centrally hosted services.
Containerized POS, managed accross locations
Rolling out and maintaining POS software across stores calls for a consistent approach. Containerization packages ViKING POS software and its dependencies together, separating the application from the underlying operating system.
This provides a common basis for distributing software and managing versions across supported environments. It also allows locally running POS to be part of a centrally managed deployment.

CUSTOMER EXAMPLE · ALMA
Cloud services.
Checkout at the edge.
Live at Alma.
Danish grocery retailer Alma runs Store Services and Celtral Services in the cloud alongside containerized ViKING POS at the edge, with offline support.
Fiftytwo has supported Alma sinse its first store opened. Its deployment shows how cloud services and local POS execution work together in a live store.
THE FIFTYTWO APPROACH
Start with the store. Design the deployment around it.
We assess checkout, Store Management and central services alongside the systemt they depend on. The aim is to place each part where it best supports your operation.
Cloud-based POS is an established option. Where checkout needs to continue through a connectivity interruption, we recommend POS execution and the required data at the edge. We then agree the operating responsibilities and plan the rollout around your existing infrastructure.
| Store operations | Checkout requirements, transaction volumes and the functions that need to remain available locally. |
| Connectivity | Network availability, backup connections and the required behavior during an interruption. |
| Integrations | Connections to payments, ERP, loyalty and other services, including their dependencies. |
| IT operations | Hosting, internal capabilities and responsibility for maintenance and support. |
| Rollout | Store formats, existing infrastructure and the sequence for introducing the agreed setup. |
Your POS Deployment questions, answered
Can ViKING POS run entirely in the cloud?
Yes. ViKING POS can run in the cloud, with checkout devices in your stores. We assess the required services, integrations and operating responsibilities for your setup.
Is hybrid deployment required?
No. The choice follows your store and operational requirements. Full cloud deployment is an option, while a hybrid setup combines cloud services with POS execution at the edge where local execution is needed.
What is the difference between edge and hybrid POS deployment?
Edge describes POS execution in the store, close to checkout devices. Hybrid describes a deployment that combines local POS execution with cloud services.
Can ViKING POS work without an internet connection?
The functions available during an interruption depend on the setup. Payments, loyalty and other connected services can have separate connectivity requirements.
Does running POS at the edge require an IT team in every store?
No. Running ViKING POS at the edge does not mean each store needs its own IT team. Software deployment, updates and support can be handled centrally under the agreed service model. Physical equipment and tasks that require access to the store still need a defined owner.
Can different stores use different deployment setups?
Deployment planning can account for differences across your stores, including connectivity, hardware and operational requirements. Fiftytwo can help determine which combinations are supported for your POS environment.
Does Fiftytwo offer POS as a service?
Yes. Fiftytwo offers ViKING POS as software as a service (SaaS), hosted by us. The solution and service agreement define the scope of hosting, software updates, support and the responsibilities retained by your organization.
Can Store Management run at the edge?
Can we change the deployment of our existing ViKING POS solution?
We start by assessing your current software, integrations and infrastructure. That establishes the available options and the work required to introduce a different setup.
